Put the ball on the grass and make it touch every blade with pace and movement and every player busting a gut.

The West Ham way is not going to cut it that is the horrible truth but what will cut it is a more defensive attacking style that incorporates the old style West Ham style it can be done easily.
Remember when we were a top 6 team they were doing it then something like that will keep us all happy.

Re: What is the West Ham way?
Having read through the responses - The West Ham way is difficult to define but most of us know it when we experience it. For me it does not just happen on the pitch ( all though that is the catalyst) but it happens in and around the football club. Including what is said and done by managers, owners and fans.

It is typified by a freedom of spirit, inventiveness and determination to beat the odds without succumbing to win at all costs mentality. To be able to win and lose with style.

If Mr Souness does not get it he could do no worse than than to look at the long list of great players and managers from the late 1950s to the present day that have flourished and developed in the West Ham way. IMO no other club can match us in this respect. Unfortunately in the modern game it might not be sustainable but any manager failing to even try need not apply for the vacancy.

Moaning

Lots and lots of moaning

Re: What is the West Ham way?
An emphasis on clever football, sometimes at the expense of ruthlessness and doing the routine things right.

Allardyce sacrificed the former without even guaranteeing that the latter was put right.

Oh do fuck off, that season under Pard's, showed no fear and got to a fa cup final that we nearly won.

Trivia question
If you include the season before the premier league started we've been down and up four times. Which clubs can beat that?

Right about short memories but you also have to remember 15 - 17 years is an age to a lot of people. There's been little decent football since Redknapp.

Re: What is the West Ham way?
People have very short memories in football and particularly when it's not their club. I'm not even talking about the success we had in the 60's 70's & 80's. In the late 90's I'd say we were one of the most entertaining teams in the league. We had flair players in abundance, I loved watching us in every game, we had players like Di canio, Sinclair, Berkovic, Joe Cole, we'd regularly chalk up goals for fun and yes concede them but we always were good on the eye and liked by neutrals, we played the right way, it's not a myth.

We have also been in the premier league 20 out of 24 seasons, hardly a yoyo club.

Re: What is the West Ham way?
It is easier to say what is not the WH way.

Playing for a draw. Lying about how well we played. We didn't win because the ref made a mistake. The linesman made a mistake. The players missed chances. Playing favourite players long after they were finished. Clueless tactics. Clueless substitutions. Hoof ball. Sam Allardyce basically....

I wasn't talking to you JGW1. It was a general pop at all the people who keep calling it a myth. I've just read your post and I agree except for the part saying it is a myth.

Yes, we haven't always lived up to it in the last 25 years, but we have gained this reputation for a reason.

Believe me, if you were listening to the radio in the 70s and early 80s, the West Ham Way is a real thing.

Re: What is the West Ham way?
West ham fans just gave it a name, but any club could say the same Tottenham way or the Man Utd way. Every club likes to think it's known for attacking and entertaining football. Teams like Arsenal went from boring Arsenal to the va va vooom invincibles era. Can't love in the past especially when we have been bang average for a long time now.
